The bulk of Cornish produce is sent out of the county to be processed |
An industrial development designed to boost agriculture in Cornwall has been given permission after a lengthy planning battle. The "food park" would be situated near Redruth and would allow Cornwall to process its own food.
The vast bulk of Cornish produce is sent out of the county to be processed.
But the 30m food park at Scorrier would change that, acting as a central manufacturing and distribution point and would have a road link to the A30.
The choice of location had prompted objections from some residents, and local planners said it could conflict with agreed policies.
However, following an appeal, a planning inspector has ruled the 36-acre site was well chosen to serve the employment needs of Camborne, Redruth and Truro.
Outline planning consent has been granted, subject to permissions.
