Funding for Cornwall is discussed
EU flag
Cornwall MP Candy Atherton says "nothing is set in stone"
What happens when Cornwall's Objective One funding from Europe comes to an end is being discussed in Westminster.

Councillors, MPs and representatives from Cornwall's economic partnerships are meeting Trade and Industry Minister Jacqui Smith on Wednesday.

Falmouth and Camborne MP, Candy Atherton, set up the meeting to examine how the county will fair after 2006.

Cornwall is the only region in the UK which will be eligible for another round of EU funding.

Objective One is one of three programmes set up to help reduce differences in social and economic conditions within the European Union.

Of the three, Objective One is the highest priority designation for European aid and is targeted at areas where prosperity, measured in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per head of population, is 75% or less of the European average.

A number of options are available, including money directly from government, or a mixture from the European Union and the Government, but Ms Atherton says "nothing is set in stone".
