A crab is set to get a new look by moving into a man-made glass shell. Sculptors have created the transparent shell based on a design dating back to the 1930s.
Now a hermit crab at the Blue Reef Aquarium in Newquay, Cornwall, is preparing to swap his whelk shell for the glass sculpture.
Matt Slater, from the Aquarium, said: "He's showing a keen interest in the new shell and I reckon he'll swap over in the next day or so.
"Crabs are always on the look-out for a better shell and, from his point of view, the glass version clearly looks more attractive."
Hermit crabs usually use shells discarded by other creatures, like whelks, to protect their soft and vulnerable bodies.
