Police to crack down over mobiles
Driver using mobile phone
Drivers could face fines of up to 500
Guernsey Police are clamping down on the use of mobile telephones whilst driving.

The law came into effect on 26 November and following an initial period of grace, people breaking the law will now be reported for prosecution.

From Monday road checks will also be carried out at various locations. Police throughout the Bailiwick will also be making sure cyclists have lights and reflectors on their bicycles.

Police are also recommending cyclists wear a reflective jacket, to make sure they are more visible to other road users, particularly in poor visibility weather conditions such as fog and heavy rain.

And the Force is reminding Bailiwick motorists the use of a mobile phone whilst driving - for any calls or texting - could be punishable by a fine of up to 500.
