Local people say they want more room for new businesses
Plans to expand an industrial estate in north Cornwall are being backed by local councillors.

The Pennygillam Industrial Estate, which sits alongside the A30 on the outskirts of Launceston, currently covers 24 hectares.

But after consulting local people, the Launceston Partnership, a body set up to improve the town's prosperity and appearance, says it needs to grow by almost two hectares.

A recent study carried out under the market and coastal town initiative showed that local people wanted more room for new businesses.

Real progress

The Launceston Partnership believes the expansion will create extra land for employment prospects and new companies.

The Regeneration Committee of North Cornwall District Council (NCDC) has already backed the proposal and it now has to go before the full council.

Chris Parsons, chairman of Launceston Partnership, said: "This is good news for Launceston. I am glad to see that issues that the Launceston Partnership have identified such as the lack of employment land in the town are being taken seriously by North Cornwall District Council.

"It's good to see that by working closely with NCDC we can achieve real progress."

Councillor Neil Burden, chair of NCDC's Regeneration Committee, said: "The council has always been very proactive in terms of economic development. We are keen to back Launceston and help businesses develop there."
