Skateboarders on a roll
A new skateboard park is opening in a Cornish village on Saturday.

The skatepark at Stithians has cost more than 50,000 and had been paid for by a series of grants and loans as well as local fundraising.

It has been developed by the village youth club and parish council.

Diane Bell, one of the co-ordinators of the project, said the new facility was a welcome addition to the village.

"There was very little for the young and energetic children to do if they didn't want to play tennis.

"They were skateboarding beside the main road of the village at risk to themselves and they were upsetting pedestrians.

"This will get them off the road onto quite an exciting skatepark and hopefully keep them distracted from drugs and other crime."
