Tesco squeezed out of web deliveries
Polruan
Traffic struggles to negotiate Polruan's narrow streets
Supermarket giant Tesco has dropped deliveries to customers in a small Cornish fishing village - because the roads are too narrow for its vans to negotiate.

Customers in picturesque Polruan near Fowey say they relied on the internet delivery service for the bulk of their shopping.

However, having built up a customer base of 16 people, Tesco has pulled out.

The firm said the narrowness of the streets took the food over its "optimum delivery time".

Resident Rita Stewert, said: "It was ideal for us because it's a long way to the shops.

"We really have to have a delivery service here - it's a shame they're unable to deliver."

Tesco said it had apologised to those affected, but said Polruan was among only 4% of the country its service did not cover.

A spokeswoman said: ""We're disappointed that we're not able to carry on delivering to the village of Polruan.

"Logistical problems meant that to continue to do so would harm the rest of the service in the region."

She said the Tesco service covered 96% of the UK.
