Domestic violence highlighted

One in four women will be a victim of domestic violence
The devastating effect domestic violence can have on children will be highlighted at a special conference on Friday.

The meeting, entitled Forget Me Not, aims to raise awareness of the impact violence in the home has on the youngest members of society.

The Cornwall Domestic Violence Forum has organised the conference at County Hall in Truro in partnership with Cornwall County Council.

Forum managers say although most people are now aware that one in four women experience some form of domestic violence, few realise the major impact it can have on the lives of children in the family.

They claim the physical and mental abuse children witness, and are subjected to, can have an effect on their behaviour, education and relationships.

It is hoped the meeting on Friday will raise awareness of these pressures among voluntary and statutory agencies, including the police, social services, the National Health Service and the Cornwall Youth Forum.
