Surgery for airgun victim
Royal Cornwall Hospital
The victims' wounds were described as "quite nasty"
A teenage girl is to undergo surgery on a pellet wound after a gunman shot at least seven people at a Cornish seaside resort.

The 15-year-old from Plymouth was shot in the foot by the gunman, who was using a .22 air rifle to target people watching a busker in Newquay.

The girl was one of four people who went to the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro for treatment for their injuries.

The wounds suffered by the victims were bleeding and "quite nasty" said Sergeant Alan Mobbs of Devon and Cornwall Police.

The shootings happened while people were watching the street entertainment in the resort's Bank Street at about 0045 on Thursday morning.

Man arrested

"Witnesses identified the gunman using the window of a flat above commercial premises," said Sergeant Mobbs.

Police arrested a 27-year-old local man in connection with the incident.

He was released on police bail and is to return to Newquay police station on 30 October.

They also recovered a .22 air rifle.
