The CompAir factory is due to close in December |
New talks are under way in an attempt to save some of the jobs threatened by the closure of a Cornish engineering company. Two firms are involved in discussions about salvaging parts of Camborne-based firm CompAir Holman.
Eighty-five staff have already been laid off, with the entire workforce of more than 180 due to go by Christmas.
Falmouth and Camborne MP, Candy Atherton, said it was too early to say if the talks would be successful.
"There are a couple of companies who are in discussions and involving workers currently working for CompAir," she said.
'Delicate stage'
"Those talks are at a delicate stage, but there is hope there and I have offered to assist in any way possible."
Despite the job losses at CompAir, Camborne mayor Cyril Waterhouse said he was optimistic about the economy of the area.
"There will be a lot of investment coming into the Camborne, Pool and Redruth area in the next five to seven years.
"Some of the jobs will be in distribution, but I would like to think there could be jobs in telephone sales work as well."
