Sailor rescued after yacht capsizes
Sea King helicopter
The man was found clinging to the hull of his upturned yacht
A helicopter from RNAS Culdrose has rescued a man from a yacht which capsized 40 miles off the Isles of Scilly.

Falmouth coastguards were alerted just after 1100 BST on Sunday when the trimaran Meridian got into difficulties.

An automatic beacon on the trimaran alerted Falmouth coastguards to the fact the yacht was in trouble.

The skipper of the yacht, who was the only person on board, abandoned the vessel as it turned over, and clung to its hull.

He was eventually airlifted to safety by the crew from 193 Squadron at RNAS Culdrose.

He was flown back to the air base near Helston and given a medical check-up.
