David Strudwick had a string of convictions for sex offences |
Fresh calls have been made for the introduction of "Sarah's Law" following the conviction of a serial rapist who murdered a woman in Cornwall. David Strudwick, 56, was sentenced to life imprisonment at Plymouth Crown Court on Tuesday for the rape and murder of Debbie Foster.
Strudwick was a registered sex offender and had only been released from prison four months before he murdered Ms Foster.
Campaigners say crimes such as this might be prevented if people were aware of offenders living within their local community.
It is the fourth time Strudwick has been given a prison sentence - the first time was in 1974.
Debbie Foster was found dead in a car park |
Ms Foster, a 38-year-old mother-of-four, was strangled in Rosewarne car park in Camborne in November. She had offered Strudwick, who was homeless at the time, somewhere to spend the night without knowing of his previous sexual abuse record.
Sarah's Law campaigners say the law would allow people limited access to the Sex Offenders' Register.
But the government says the move could result in members of the public taking the law into their own hands if they discover an offender is living in their local area.
