New ways of controlling Japanese Knotweed are being investigated in Cornwall. The invasive plant is a major problem for the county, costing thousands of pounds a year to clear away with herbicides.
Now a new partnership has been formed to look at natural ways of killing the alien weed.
Researchers will travel to Japan to look at the plant's natural predators to see if they can be safely introduced to Cornwall.

The co-ordinator of the project, Scott Sharples, says it has taken a long time to get the scheme up and running. "This funding is to try and co-ordinate and get everybody on side.
"We are trying to adopt a common approach.
"This is where the knotweed forum really broke ground.
"It's been accepted now as a method of best practice which other authorities are now following."
