Power prices may fall claim
wind farm
Unit-e is expanding its wind farm business in the UK
The firm which has bought the UK's first commercial wind farm says any long-term plans to increase the size of the farm could result in cheaper electricity for local people.

The 10-turbine wind farm, at Delabole in north Cornwall, has been purchased for nearly 2m by renewable energy supply company Unit-e.

The wind farm currently supplies power to about 1,500 homes.

Unit-e chief executive Juliet Davenport said the firm could expand the farm in the future.

She said: "If there are problems with planning we might consider giving a local community product.

"We would do it for a limited number of people who would be affected by a wind farm development."

She added that there were no specific plans yet to expand Delabole, which was built in the early 1990s.

The company was also considering buying another UK wind farm in the next year, and has not ruled out Cornwall.

Unit-e is looking into the possibility of taking over the neighbouring Gaia renewable energy centre, which went into administration in March.

Ms Davenport said: "We are on the list and we will not discard it in any way whatsoever.

"We have to look at it as a whole and whether it would fit in with any investment."
