New policing scheme launched
Police
Cornwall and Scilly will have 102 neighbourhood beat managers in total

Devon and Cornwall Police is set to launch its new neighbourhood policing scheme later this week.

21 new police officers are being introduced across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly over the next 12 months.

New neighbourhood beat managers will be dedicated to dealing with the issues within their local area and will work with members of the community to solve problems.

The scheme is designed to provide a more visible police presence on the streets of the county and the islands, and to make the police service more accessible to local people.

Positive feedback

It follows the launch of the scheme in Plymouth a few weeks ago and senior officers have had positive feedback from both members of the public and their colleagues.

The force is keen to stress that the neighbourhood beat managers will not take front line officers away from dealing with major incidents.

There will be 102 neighbourhood beat managers in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly by the end of the year.
