Cigarette and litter louts fined
Five people have been fined a total of 470 and ordered to pay costs of 530 for dropping litter on city streets.

All five had previously failed to pay a fixed penalty charge and were ordered to pay a 15 victim impact surcharge at Peterborough Magistrates Court.

Adrian Best, 39, of Whittlesey, Mohammed Mimouna, 37, of Peterborough, Xanthia Bell, 18, and Sam Evans, 19, both of Orton Goldhay, dropped butts.

Lee Smalley, 30, of Werrington, pleaded guilty to dropping a sweet wrapper.

The prosecutions were brought by Peterborough City Council and a spokesman said: "Smoking-related litter is unsightly and difficult to clean up.

"The filters are composed of cellulose acetate, a form of plastic, and can take between 18 months and 500 years to break down."
