The Archbishop of Canterbury has been awarded an honorary doctorate in divinity from Cambridge University. Dr Rowan Williams, who was educated at Christ's College, Cambridge, received his degree at a ceremony on Tuesday.
He has taught theology at Oxford and at Cambridge, where he was also Dean of Clare College.
Other individuals receiving degrees included Mervyn King, governor of the Bank of England, who was awarded an honorary doctorate in law.
Novelist Margaret Drabble also received an honorary doctorate in letters.
