 Uprooted trees caused damage to cars and roofs |
A clear-up operation was beginning on Friday morning after a tornado caused damage in parts of Peterborough. The winds struck on late on Thursday afternoon in the Gunthorpe and Newborough areas of the city.
Tiles were ripped from roofs, windows smashed and cars badly damaged by falling trees. One resident saw a shed being lifted into the air.
It happened after a tornado caused devastation and injured 20 people in Birmingham on Thursday afternoon.
A spokeswoman for Cambridgeshire Fire Service said there were no reports of anyone being hurt in Peterborough.
"We had a lot of calls from people," she said.
"The main problem was structural damage - damage to roofs, tiles coming off, that kind of thing."
A resident of Avon Court in Gunthorpe that was hit by the winds said: "As the wind increased we looked up and there was rubbish and debris going hundreds of feet up in the sky.
"It picked up a shed in the next-door-neighbour's garden and dropped it on the fence and broke that.
"Then it picked up a wendy house and a gazebo and put that on the other side of the fence."
