Woman on oxygen to run marathon
Lynn Ashton
Lynn Ashton has been diagnosed with bronchiectasis
A 45-year-old woman is preparing to run the London marathon in April - pushing an oxygen cylinder.

Lynn Ashton from Huntingdon, Cambs, damaged her lungs six years ago when a candle set light to a plastic table cloth and she inhaled the fumes.

As a result, she now has to breathe with the aid of an oxygen cylinder.

To enable her to take part in the race, she will have to carry her oxygen cylinder in a shopping trolley, and push it around the course.

Lung disease

She is planning to finish the course in about five days, and is hoping to raise 5,000 for the British lung foundation.

"I have done a few sponsored walks locally but decided that I wanted to not only raise more money, but also raise the profile of lung disease. So I have decided to do the London Marathon.

"I was recently diagnosed with bronchiectasis. I have been on oxygen 24 hours a day since the fire.

"I had a nasal cannular for six years but I have just had a scoop fitted, which is a small tube going into my trachea."
