The first public consultation on human fertility for 15 years is to look at genetic screening and embryo selection. People have been invited to a special symposium at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge on Monday evening.
Organisers said it is the first open discussion of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act since 1990.
They want to hear what the public think of recently developed techniques to screen families whose children are at risk of inheriting a serious condition.
But they are aware of fears the technology could be used to help parents create "designer babies" for aesthetic reasons.
