The computer manipulates x-rays to produce detailed images of the body
A hi-tech scanning suite is being installed on Sunday at Peterborough District Hospital, in Cambridgeshire.

The seven block suite will house a new 500,000 scanner to replace the current one and provide a waiting area.

The computerised tomography (CT) scanner uses x-rays to look closely inside the soft tissue of the body.

Funded by a National Lottery grant the scanner enables a variety of images to be taken and will considerably reduce waiting times.

It takes images from different angles around the body and a computer then processes the images to show a cross-section of tissues and organs.

The installation means that Alderman Drive will be closed to traffic between Thorpe Road and Percival Street but is still accessible on foot.
