Men-only race for cancer charity

A fun run is to be held to raise cash for men-only cancers
A men-only fun run is to be staged to raise money for charities researching testicular and prostate cancers.

The event to be held in Peterborough echoes the popular all-female Race For Life for breast cancer.

The One Ball Fun Run, sponsored by X-factor judge Simon Cowell, will raise money for charities supporting research into testicular and prostate cancer.

The race is set to take place at Ferry Meadows on Saturday 1 October and Simon said: "I'm delighted to be involved."

Raising awareness

The One Ball Fun Run was set up by personal trainer Steve Bedford, 35, originally from Peterborough, but now based in London.

He said: "I'm sure with Simon backing us it will encourage even more men to take part in the run.

"There are 162 female-only breast cancer runs in the country this summer alone, but there are no male-only events for cancers that affect them.

"After reading cyclist Lance Armstrong's autobiography, I felt very inspired. I wanted to do something to raise awareness, but make it fun at the same time."

The One Ball event will also help local youth clubs and schools - as those taking part are encouraged to also bring along a sports ball to donate.
