Charity role for Holly's father
Kevin Wells
Kevin Wells is to be patron of the charity Grief Encounter
The father of murdered Soham schoolgirl Holly Wells is to talk about grief at the launch of a charity set up to help bereaved children.

Kevin Wells, whose 10-year-old daughter and her friend Jessica Chapman were killed by Ian Huntley in August 2002, will be a keynote speaker.

Mr Wells, from Soham, Cambridgeshire, has also agreed to be patron of the Grief Encounter charity.

He has written the foreword to a book to help deal with children's grief.

The charity's founder, Shelley Gilbert, said: "I am delighted and hugely grateful that Kevin has agreed to be our patron."

Often overlooked

Ms Gilbert has worked as a counsellor and aims to raise awareness of the emotional distress young people suffer during the "dark time" after the loss of a close relative or friend.

"Seeing Grief Encounter recognised as a worthwhile charity for children who have, for too long, had to deal with a grief so huge and yet so often overlooked, is for me the fulfilment of a long-term ambition," she said.

The reception will be in north London's Camden Arts Centre on Thursday evening.
