Walkers want 1m children boost
A Cambridgeshire businessman is aiming to raise 1m for two charities by walking 260 miles through East Anglia.

Paul Thwaites will embark on the 11-day journey with former England cricketer Mike Gatting and former Commonwealth weightlifting champion, David Morgan.

At various points along the route they will be joined by other celebrities such as professional football players.

The walk will raise money for SOFAST, which benefits Addenbrooke's Hospital and Sargent Cancer Care for Children.

Mr Thwaites, chairman of SOFAST, decided to organise the fundraising venture after his son was diagnosed with a tumour and treated by Addenbrooke's Hospital's Children's Services.

Luckily his child's tumour was benign, but he said he saw how hard it is for families who cope with sick children.

Mr Thwaites, who is also chief executive of the Ashwell Property Group, said he was looking forward to the challenge which begins on Thursday and is due to end on 26 September in Cambridge.

During the 11 days the walkers will stride through Chelmsford, Colchester, Ipswich, Lowestoft, Norwich, Bury St Edmunds and Newmarket.
