Lancaster bomber pilots are taking part in a flypast
One of the most daring raids of World War II is being commemorated at the Imperial War Museum at Duxford.

Lancaster and Tornado pilots are to take part in a flypast to mark the 60th anniversary of the sinking of the German battleship, the Tirpitz.

Veterans from 617 and 9 squadron will be at the show to meet the public and recall their memories of the raid.

The whole of the museum's 65-acre heritage complex, near Cambridge, will be open for visitors.

September 1944 saw the beginning of attacks on the German battleship Tirpitz.

The first raid on the Tirpitz by 617 Squadron was mounted from Russia but was unsuccessful.

However, when the Tirpitz sailed into a Norwegian fjord it came within range of the UK, and on 12 November 1944 a combined force of 9 and 617 Squadron aircraft bombed the ship.
