Planners have given the go-ahead for a 34m "super school" in Peterborough. The Thomas Deacon Academy will be born out of the merger of two existing schools - Deacon's and Hereward Community College.
The academy, for 2,000 pupils on the site of the current Deacon's School, will be one of the most expensive state schools in Britain.
The plans, submitted last month, were approved by city councillors on Wednesday. It is due to open in 2006.
