Police are disappointed by the rise in the drink-driving arrests
There has been a big increase in the arrests for drink-driving in Cambridgeshire this Christmas season.

Police said an average of nine motorists a day had been arrested for failing breath tests - more than 50% up on the figure for last year.

The rise is despite an extensive campaign to deter drinking and driving.

Since the campaign began in the county on 18 December, 29 people have been arrested for driving while over the limit.

The figure during the same period last year was 19.

A police spokesman said they were disappointed with the results.

"Unfortunately people are just to heeding the warnings we have given," he said.

The figures showed there was still a hard core of people prepared to take the risk of going out for a drink then driving.

Officers have renewed their appeal for people going out celebrating to leave their cars at home.
