The demonstration passed off peacefully |
Several hundred animal rights protesters marched peacefully through the centre of Huntingdon in Cambridgeshire on Saturday. It was the latest protest against the controversial testing laboratory, Huntingdon Life Sciences.
The rally was organised by Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty (SHAC), who have been campaigning for many years to close Europe's biggest animal testing laboratory.
Greg Avery, from SHAC, said: "We will be here day after day, week after week, year after year.
"There is no escape for Huntingdon Life Sciences."
Although the demonstration passed off peacefully, Cambridgeshire Police took no chances.
They had advised Peterborough United football team to bring their FA Cup match against Grimsby forward to 1400 GMT.
Last month the government gave the go-ahead for a 30m primate research laboratory at Cambridge University.
