School damaged in arson attack
Fire investigator
The fire is being treated as arson
Investigators are tracking a suspected arsonist who set fire to a school in the early hours of Monday.

The fire started in a hallway at Stanground College in Peterborough just after midnight.

Even though damage from the flames was limited to one area, the fire service said every room in the school has been affected by smoke.

Headteacher Stephen Foster said the staff are extremely upset and angry.

He said "You feel as if the school has almost been desecrated, actually.

"To have someone come around and deliberately, it seems, set fire to the school is really quite offensive."

Peterborough has seen more than a dozen arson attacks in residential neighbourhoods in the past few weeks, but investigators believe the fire at the school is not connected.

Pupils should be back in class sometime later in the week.
