House prices force people to travel further to work
Commuters in Cambridgeshire are travelling further to work than ever before.

Rising house prices mean fewer people can afford to live close to their place of work.

In a survey conducted by the motoring organisation the AA, many workers said it was not unusual for them to travel 30 miles to work.

Many say they are resigned to long journeys to work because they cannot afford to live in places like central Cambridge, Peterborough and Huntingdon.

In 1965, the average journey to work was four miles and by 1995 it was nine miles.

The average price for a house in Cambridgeshire is now nearly 145, 000, with a detached house costing over 200,000 and a terraced house 112,458.
