The Bristol Rovers midfielder David Pipe is facing a charge of wounding after a man suffered a fractured skull in Bristol city centre.

Police were called to Park Street on 4 September after reports of a fight in which a man, 29, was badly injured.

Mr Pipe, 26, will appear at Bristol Magistrates' Court next month charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He has been on loan to Cheltenham Town since 26 November.

Kirsty Pugh, spokeswoman for Bristol Rovers, said: "This is now a matter for the courts.

"We will wait to see the outcome of the case before we decide on any further course of action."
