The market's ethos is to help people enjoy good quality food |
Shoppers visiting Bristol's slow food market will be treated to a cookery demonstration using local produce. The monthly event gives browsers the chance to meet local producers and find out how to prepare some of the region's tastiest specialities. Asparagus from The Better Food Company and Garlic Farms' seaweed will be cooked with hollandaise sauce made from Chitcombe Farm eggs and Keen's butter. The market is held on Corn Street and Wine Street. The market will also be celebrating its recent award of 'Highly Commended' in the category of 'Best Speciality Market' for the 2008 Market of the year awards organised by the National Association of British Market Authorities. Slower lifestyle The Slow Food Market is now in its third year and organisers are keen to see the market grow and they would be happy to hear from any traders who would like to be considered for a space at the market. Nick Miller, of Bristol Slow Food, said: "We would like to hear from any traders who feel that they would meet the criteria for trading at the Slow Food Market. Essentially we are looking for producers that are able to provide a quality product which is ideally locally sourced." Slow Food was founded it Italy in 1986 as a direct response to the opening of a MacDonald's restaurant at the bottom of the Spanish Steps in Rome and has grown into an international movement. Its aims are to sustain quality agriculture and protect biodiversity by supporting small traditional food producers and to promote a slower lifestyle in which people have time to enjoy good quality food with friends and family.
