Letter asks Banksy for street art

The Lord Mayor of Bristol has written an open letter to the city's most famous urban artist, Banksy, in the hope he will help with his charity.

Royston Griffee wants Banksy, whose work sells for hundreds of thousands of pounds, to donate a work to help his charity for under-privileged children.

The work would be auctioned off in May but the graffiti artist is notoriously difficult to track down.

Mr Griffee said: "I've always thought he was a fantastic artist."

He added: "We hope he might make himself known to us. We'll keep his identity secret."

The Lord Mayor is also soliciting gifts from corporations and individuals for the auction, but said the Banksy piece would be "top of the list".
