Company investigates water leak
Mike Foot
Mike Foot says the leak has been gushing water for months
A water company says it will investigate a leak which has seen water pouring down a Bristol street for four months.

Mike Foot, a businessman from Spring Street, Bedminster, complained to several water companies and Bristol City Council, but nothing was done.

He had noticed a constant stream of water running down the road coming out of a manhole cover.

Wessex Water says responsibility for the leak has yet to be decided.

'Drought conditions'

Mr Foot told the BBC: "We heard from Bristol Water, Wessex Water, Bristol City Council and the Environment Agency.

"None of them was prepared to take responsibility for the thousands of gallons of water that have come out of this manhole cover in the last four months.

"I thought we were under drought conditions at the moment."

In a statement Wessex Water said: "We were first contacted about this incident two weeks ago, but unfortunately we have so far been unable to resolve the issue.

"Earlier this week we sent a crew out to clear a suspected blockage in the sewer.

"As this does not appear to have solved the problem, one of our inspectors will be visiting the site ... to carry out further investigations.

"This is a surface water sewer so it is not drinking water or sewage which is discharging from the manhole. We would like to apologise for failing to deliver our usual high standards of service."
