Alcohol is blamed for fuelling much anti-social behaviour |
Large amounts of alcohol were seized from underage drinkers in a clampdown on nuisance behaviour, police said. Officers patrolled the Oldland Common area of South Gloucestershire last Friday and Saturday nights following complaints of rowdiness and litter.
Crowds of youngsters were dispersed and letters were sent to the parents of 20 children caught drinking, urging them to take more responsibility.
A 15-year-old boy was arrested and warned for being abusive to officers.
Sergeant Kevin Thatcher said: "Officers poured away litres of alcohol before warning them about the dangers of underage drinking.
"I firmly believe that much of the anti-social behaviour is alcohol-fuelled.
Officers on patrol in Kingswood also arrested a man in his 20s on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm following a "glassing" incident in a nightclub which left a partygoer with cuts to his face.
He was bailed pending further enquiries.
Sgt Thatcher warned that Operation Debonair would continue in the coming weeks.
