Bristol-based cycle charity Sustrans has won the Best Mode of Transport award for leading the field in the Responsible Travel Awards. The accolade was for its work to enable people to travel in ways that are good for the environment.
Sustrans' flagship National Cycle Network now passes within a mile of half the UK population.
In 2005 it was used for 201m walking and cycling trips from everyday commuting to leisure.
Sustrans beat off competition from more than 700 organisations which were nominated by the public before a shortlist was considered by a panel of expert judges.
The awards are organised by online travel agent responsible travel.com, the Times and Geographical Magazine.
