Polar explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes is to take on a new challenge - Bristol's first Rat Race Urban Adventure. The Exmoor-based adventurer, who famously ran seven marathons on seven continents in seven days for charity, is among hundreds taking part.
The June race will involve a combination of challenges such as kayaking, abseiling and running.
The veteran adventurer abseiled down a building in Edinburgh last July to launch the inaugural Rat Race.
The new twist on adventure racing comes from the streets of Chicago, New York and Stockholm.
The event is the brainchild of organiser Jim Mee, who had the idea while climbing in Peru.
He said: "The interest in The Rat Race has been absolutely amazing and it is sure to become an annual fixture in the adventure racing calendar."
