F136 engine connected to the Rolls-Royce LiftSystem
During May the engine will undergo 300 hours of testing
Testing has started on the first GE Rolls-Royce F136 Short Take-off Vertical Landing (STOVL) development engine for the Joint Strike Fighter.

It is being seen as a key milestone for Rolls-Royce in Bristol.

The STOVL project is managed from the plant at Patchway and the fan for the F136 was assembled at the site.

The engine was connected to the Rolls-Royce LiftSystem and fired up to check for leaks, dry and wet motoring, and to begin its initial evaluation.

Three hundred hours of testing are planned during May at the firm's base in Peebles, Ohio, USA.
