Aardman characters promote code

Animators at Bristol's Aardman have been commissioned to make a new film to help enforce the Countryside Code.

The triple Oscar winners created new characters for the video from their series 'Creature Comforts'.

They include Colin the pony, John the dog, Ricky the spider and two seagulls called Dawne and Issy.

The Countryside Agency hopes that Aardman will help it get over the list of 'do's' and 'don'ts' without being too dictatorial.

Walkers' rights

This is the first major overhaul of the Countryside Code for 50 years.

It comes ahead of new walkers' rights which will be introduced over the next few years and a new website explaining where to go and what to do to get the most out of visits to the countryside.

"We want to encourage everyone to have confidence in their new rights and responsibilities and to respect those who depend on the countryside," said Pam Warhurst, chairwoman of the Cheltenham-based Countryside Agency.

The Aardman characters will appear on TV and in cinemas and outdoor venues from this week.
