Youngsters will be taught a range of circus tricks
A circus school has been awarded a 9,900 grant to promote healthy living by teaching young people big top performance tricks.

Bristol-based Circomedia is to run a programme teaching skills such as trapeze work, acrobatics and juggling.

The project, sponsored by the National Heart Research Fund, will also explore health issues including smoking.

Spokeswoman Kate Webb said: "Circus skills are a great way of keeping fit and leading a healthier lifestyle."

The Wise Up programme will be run at Circomedia's new centre at St Paul's Church in Portland Square.

Community projects

Around 50 youngsters from the area are expected to take part in the weekly sessions.

Circomedia already runs a circus performance school in Kingswood. Its new site will be the base for its community outreach work.

The grant was awarded as part of the National Heart Research Fund's Healthy Lifestyle Scheme.

Under this programme, the charity provides financial backing to community projects aimed at addressing the main causes of heart disease.
