The tram would have linked Parkway Station with the city centre

The �200m light rail project was meant to provide an answer to the city's congestion problems.

But after growing fears about government funding and the cost of the scheme escalating, the council decided to divert funds elsewhere.

It is believed other ways of improving transport in the city are now to be considered.
