Tenants in eight blocks of flats will benefit from the revamp |
A multi million pound scheme designed to improve life for more than 600 city council tenants on the Barton Hill Estate is recommended to be approved. The proposal has been put together by Community at Heart, the body delivering Bristol's government-funded New Deal for Communities scheme.
Tenants in eight blocks of flats will get improved heating, CCTV, security fencing, parking and a village green.
Bristol City Council is being asked to approve the scheme on Tuesday June 8.
Unique opportunity
The council's Cabinet is asked to back the 8m scheme and to say yes to spending just over 2m raised through the sale of nearby council-owned land.
Community at Heart also wants support in principle for its plan to extend the programme to include the demolition of a nearby row of shops.
The organisation's proposal involves building new shops and housing providing it can find ways to raise the extra 800,000 required.
Councillor Richard Eddy, Executive Member for Neighbourhood and Housing Services, said: "These proposals for Barton Hill offer a unique opportunity to transform the lives of more than 600 tenants and their families."
The programme would benefit residents in Ashmead, Barton, Beaufort, Corbett, Eccleston, Harwood, Longlands and Phoenix Houses.
