Residents hope the gates will stop crime such as burglary | Residents in Bristol have paid for iron gates to be fitted in an alleyway near their homes in a bid to beat crime. They hope the gates installed in Stoneleigh Crescent, Upper Knowle, will reduce crimes such as burglary, drug dealing and fly-tipping. The initiative was supported by police and received some funding from the Avon and Somerset Police Community Trust. Scheme chairman Les Bowen said: "We wanted to do something to help beat crime and ensure our area stays safe."
