Students get own recycling scheme
Bristol University has been awarded 100,000 to set up a recycling scheme for its student halls of residence.

The scheme is a partnership between the University, Bath University, Envolve, Bristol City and Bath and North East Somerset councils.

Joanna Simpson, Assistant Energy and Environmental Manager at the University said a pilot scheme trialled in 2002 saw recycling more than double. One project aim is to reduce the amount of waste going into landfill sites.

The University said if it can get students into the recycling habit during their time as undergraduates, it is confident they will continue once they leave.

"Communicating with students on mass can be an effective way to increase recycling rates and awareness of environmental issues during and after their time at university," said Ms Simpson.

The money came from the Community Recycling and Economic Development Programme.
