Bikers asked to 'respect others'
Police in Portishead say they will seize the motorcycles of youths who persist in anti-social behaviour.

The move follows complaints from residents that some youngsters aged between 16 and 20 have been making a nuisance of themselves in the town.

A police spokesman said the bikes concerned were not always street legal and in some cases riders were not wearing helmets or insured.

"We're not trying to be killjoys but we ask riders to be respectful to others."

'Potential offences'

He added: "We're responding to the calls from the public and want to reassure residents that we are doing what we can to resolve the matter.

"There are a number of potential offences which the youths could be committing, especially if they take their bikes onto public roads.

"They can also face charges if they are riding on land without permission."

Police say the culprits would be sent a warning letter first and then, if their behaviour continued, they would be able to confiscate their motorbikes.
