A Bristol hospital has officially launched a new therapy scheme for people diagnosed with eating disorders. The intensive programme, run by Southmead Hospital's Steps Unit, lasts for 12 weeks and provides clients with support and supervised meals.
There is also a range of psychiatric help to aid sufferers in coping with conditions such as anorexia and bulimia.
Chris Andrews, day therapy co-ordinator at the Eating Disorders Service, said: "You need to be referred by your GP to us.
"I advise anybody who is worried to push hard and try to get treatment.
"It is a huge problem, and is becoming very widespread in society."
One sufferer of bulimia, Victoria, told the BBC she was saved by the programme.
"Before I was referred to the unit I weighed three stone lighter than I do now.
"I don't think I'd be here if it wasn't for the Steps unit, my situation had got that serious."
