Airport helps Christmas getaway
Plane on runway
More than 100 flights took off from the airport over the weekend
Bristol International Airport has experienced one of its busiest weekends.

More than 30,000 passengers were booked to fly on the last weekend before Christmas - 25% more than this time last year.

Airport spokesman Tony Hallwood said the majority were going on skiing holidays.

"Many are going to Andorra to ski. Winter sun destinations are also popular, especially Tenerife," he said

Edinburgh and Dublin were ranked as the top two domestic destinations.

More than 100 flights from the airport were scheduled on Saturday and Sunday.

The government recently announced that Bristol International would be expanding, with a runway extention and new terminal building.

Airport managers also hope to introduce long-haul flights to destinations such as New York within the next two years.
