Councillor sought over computer porn
John Astley
John Astley failed to report back to police
A Bristol city councillor, arrested on suspicion of alleged electoral fraud, is wanted for questioning in connection with the downloading of pornography.

John Astley, who fled to Amsterdam after his arrest in October, was arrested on suspicion of alleged electoral fraud.

He was bailed to reappear in court but failed to turn up, instead being tracked down to Amsterdam in Holland.

On Saturday, Avon and Somerset Police revealed that during their investigation into the alleged electoral fraud, they seized a computer and computer disks belonging to the 38-year-old.

In a statement they said Mr Astley was due to be questioned about "other unconnected matters" on his return to Britain.

Councillor's return

It is known that the extradition order for his return concerns downloading pornography from the internet.

Talks continue between the UK and Holland to secure the councillor's return. They hope that will be next week.

Mr Astley is fighting the extradition order and has resigned from the Liberal Democrat group on Bristol City Council.

However, he remains a councillor unless disqualified as a result of a criminal conviction.
