More than 40 members of the armed forces from the West have been honoured by the Queen for their bravery and service during the war in Iraq.

The Ministry of Defence has announced awards for more than 370 service personnel, with 41 people from the region recognised.

Among those honoured was Lieutenant Tony King, from Congresbury, Somerset.

Lieutenant King was among six British servicemen who died when two Royal Navy Sea King aircraft collided over the northern Arabian Gulf in March.

He was given a posthumous mention in dispatches.

Colonel David Martin MBE, from Tetbury and late of The Royal Logistic Corps was awarded the only CBE in the region.

While Royal Marine Corporal David Beresford, from Taunton, was given a Military Cross.
