Parents and other interested parties are invited to Monday's meeting

The city council is inviting comment on three proposals: the new Bristol secondary school, the expansion of Fairfield School and the revised catchment area for the north of the city.

Parents, staff, local residents and other interested parties are being invited to take part in a series of meetings and discuss the proposals with council officers.

John Gaskin, director of education, said: "These proposals will transform the face of secondary education in the north of the city.

"A lot of work has been carried out already including a previous public consultation exercise.

"But I stress that these are proposals and that the view of everyone taking part in the consultation will be taken into consideration when recommendations are made to cabinet."

However, some parents are sceptical about the consultation process.

Jan Elliott, chairman of pressure group Parents Action for Secondary Education, said the city council planned to ignore the views of parents and accused them of simply 'going through the motions'.

"Decisions are often already made and councillors just want to make the facts fit what has already been decided," she told the Western Daily Press newspaper.

The first of the public meetings on the new north Bristol school will be held on Monday 19 May at 1900 BST at Westbury Park Primary School, Bayswater Avenue.
